CNMI’s Eli Ebenezer Wong who won 14 medals, 13 gold and one silver, and Pohnpei’s Debra Daniel who bagged 13 medals, seven gold and six silver, were both recognized by the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee and the Micronesian Games Council for showing excellent sports performances.
Daniel won silver medals in 200-meter free style, 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter breaststroke, 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter free style, as well as gold medals in 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter butterfly, 100-meter free style, 200-meter individual medley, 100-meter free stroke and 200-meter backstroke and 5-kilometer open ocean swim, among others.
Wong, on the other hand, bagged a silver medal for 50-meter free style, and gold medals in 200-meter individual medley, 100-meter butterfly, 50-meter butterfly, 200-meter breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke and 5-kilometer open ocean swim, among others.
However, both have already left the island before the closing ceremony started on Tuesday. Their chefs de mission received the paddles, which represent the friendship and goodwill that resulted from the games, on their behalf.
The paddles were hand-painted by Elsei Tellei, who also designed the logo for the 7th Micronesian Games.
