Tax season is here

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) —  The 2024 tax filing season has begun, with the Department of Revenue and Taxation now accepting 2023 tax year returns, the agency announced in a press release.

Monday marks the start of the nation’s tax season and tax returns on Guam, depending on the type, can be filed online.

“E-Filing of certain Forms 1040 will be able to be done at www.myguamtax.com beginning Monday, Jan. 29, 2024. DRT encourages taxpayers to file their Forms 1040 online,” DRT stated in the release.

E-file is available in instances where the following applies:

  • Wages are being reported from Form W-2, Wage and tax statement.
  • Reporting Social Security income from Form SSA-1099.
  • Wages, salaries, tips and interest income were not greater than $1,500.
  • No adjustments to income were made.
  • Claiming Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit and/or Additional Child Tax Credit.
  • Filer received a Form 199-G for Unemployment Income received.

Instances where filing status is Married Filing Separately or Qualifying Surviving Spouse must file Form 1040 manually.

Other instances that require filing Form 1040 manually include deductions other than wages, interest, income and tax credits.

“Hard copies of forms will be available at DRT’s Income Tax Branch beginning Monday, Jan. 29, 2024. However, Guam Forms 1040 and 1040SR can be accessed at www.myguamtax.com and www.guamtax.com. For more forms and instructions, please visit www.irs.gov or consult with a tax professional,” the department said in the release.

Tax filings can be mailed to the department at P.O. Box 2307, GMF Barrigada, GU 96921 or placed in DRT’s drop box.

The governor’s office has noted that tax return checks have been processed within two to three weeks of filing.

April 15 is the due date for filing of returns.
