According to Faith Swords, Ministry of Education (MOE) English Specialist, the principals of the three northern schools had requested for an English workshop to support and replenish the teachers.
Swords said in a phone interview that the workshop focused primarily on “unpacking the English standard learning objectives” – standards in MOE’s English curriculum that detail what students are expected to learn from grade level to grade level.
Swords further added that that teachers participated in activities consistent with the standards and practiced preparing lessons plans that correlated specifically to each of the objectives in the standards. In addition, teachers’ teaching strategies were honed.
The workshop was conducted during the weekend to avoid interrupting the schools’ scheduled instructional days.
