Tourism school receives donation

The Palau Chamber of Commerce and the Belau Tourism Association received the donation from CTSI Thursday.

CTSI donated $2,000 to the project to fund the learning institution which will build the Palau Tourism and Hospitality School of Excellence.The learning institution is a collaboration among BTA, Ministry of Education and the Palau Community College (PCC).The following were present during the donation– BTA Board of Directors: Dr. Ueki (President); Lucy Sugiyama (Director), Carol Ngiraidis (Director); PCOC Board of Directors: Jennifer Koskelin-Gibbons (President); Francis Remengesau.The learning institution is a collaboration among BTA, Ministry of Education and the Palau Community College (PCC).The school will train hospitality personnel especially Palauans.The school will cost about $750,000 to build and its construction and is set to begin this month.The school’s goal is to meet the need of the hospitality industry allowing retirees and housewives to get a five-week course and obtain a diploma and be ready for the job market. Bank of Hawaii, Surangel and Sons also helped to fund the school.Earlier the BTA conducted a fundraiser for the project.
