Townhall village meetings to discuss neighborhood watch program

(Press Release) —   The 16th Saipan & Northern Islands Municipal Council is inviting all residents, families, neighbors, friends and businesses to attend the upcoming series of townhall village meetings scheduled for this month.  Your voice matters because You matter.  Your input and feedback are valuable in an effort to inform the council of the best approach forward with the Saipan Neighborhood Watch Program.

The townhall village meetings will solicit input and garner the valuable support and participation of residents regarding the installation of CCTV cameras initially at school bus stops then later at sports and recreational facilities, public parks, etc.

The meetings will  be held from 5:30 p.m. to 630 p.m. on the following dates:

• July 13, 2021 — Kagman Community Center in Kagman 3

• July 15, 2021 — Carolinian Utt  in Garapan

• July 20, 2021 — Tanapag Social Hall across from Santa Remedios Church

• July 22, 2021 — San Vicente Youth Park

• July 27, 2021 — Koblerville Youth Center

• July 29, 2021 — GTC Elementary School

Residents can also attend the meetings via Google Meet by sending their email address no less than a day in advance to  [email protected] for the meeting link.

The council aims to implement a year-round community-based neighborhood watch to help preserve the safety and security of all — children, youth, adults, the elderly, families, households, businesses, non-profit organizations, and public facilities in villages throughout Saipan.

“Our goal, too, is to call upon the 22nd Commonwealth Legislature’s support to pass a bill (and appropriate annual project funding) to dedicate this project in honor of Maleina and Faloma Quitugua Luhk who mysteriously went missing on May 25, 2011,” Council Chairperson Ana Demapan-Castro said. “Everyone’s lives and peace of mind matter.”
