VOTERS have overwhelmingly retained Supreme Court Associate Justice John A. Manglona, Superior Court Associate Judges Joseph N. Camacho and Wesley Bogdan.
A CNMI judge serves a six-year term while a justice serves an eight-year term.
Justice Manglona received 11,013 or 82.85% yes votes for retention, and 2,279 or 17.15% no votes.
This is his third time to be retained. His latest eight-year term will expire in May 2024.
Appointed by former Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio to the high court in 2000, Manglona was retained by 75% of CNMI voters in 2007 and by 78% in 2014.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho received 10,170 or about 75% yes votes and 3,411 or 25% no votes.
This is also Judge Camacho’s third time to be retained. An appointee of former Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, he became judge in November 2011. In 2016, Judge Camacho’s retention was supported by 78% of the votes cast.
On Tuesday, he said: “Thank you to the voters for their overwhelming support. I am humbled by their vote of confidence. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as a judge.”
As for Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan, his retention received 9,032 or 70.06% yes votes and 3,860 or 29.94% no votes.
An appointee of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Bogdan became associate judge in August 2017.
He is a former legal counsel and senior policy advisor in both the Office of the Lt. Governor and Office of the Governor during the administrations of Gov. Eloy S. Inos and Gov. Torres.
Bogdan also served as legal counsel and policy advisor on behalf of the Commonwealth during the 2016-2017 Covenant Section 902 consultations with the U.S. government of the United States.
