Yap hosts homecoming festival

The Yap Visitors Bureau has released a statement highlighting the festival activities that will take place during the third week of June.

YVB said locals, former residents and visitors have been invited to reconnect with family and friends and partake in local entertainment at the festival.

In addition, there will be a variety of activities for residents and guests to enjoy.

A fun run around the Chamorro Bay area and a 5k race will be held in Colonia at 8:30 a.m. with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the 5k race for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Free t-shirts will also be given away. Those interested in the fun run or 5k race are asked to fill out a registration form which are available at the YVB office during normal working hours. People must register in order to receive their free t-shirt.

Other thrilling sport activities that will take place are paddling race, free local canoe rides and a men’s volleyball doubles-tournament.

The festival will include an exciting carnival with variety of fun, new games and cool prizes.

The carnival will take place at the Old Dock, across from YCA.

Live music by local bands such as “Blues Reggae Band” and “The Jokers” will also take place at the Colonia Community Center on that day.

Two invigorating Yapese dances and a photo display will also be featured that day. The photo display will showcase photos of Yap throughout its development so the homecoming festival has something for everyone.
