YAPING She pled guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon at a change of plea hearing before Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo on March 26, 2021.

Police said Yaping She attempted to cut a man with a box cutter in Susupe last year.
The judge sentenced the defendant to 10 years’ imprisonment, but all suspended except for 180 days, with credit of 156 days for time already served.
The defendant will be released from the custody of the Department of Corrections on April 19, 2021, the judge said.
The defendant, moreover, will be placed on supervised probation for two years upon serving her sentence and release from the custody of Corrections.
She was also ordered to pay court cost in the amount of $100 and probation fee in the amount of $240 before the expiration of probation, among other conditions.
The defendant was ordered to report to the Office of Adult Probation on April 22, 2021.
Initially, Yaping She was charged with assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.
But after signing a plea agreement with the government, the assault and disturbing the peace charges were dropped.
Vina Seelam, assistant public defender, represented the defendant at the hearing on March 26, 2021, and an interpreter, Dennis Tse, was also provided for Yaping She.
Assistant Attorney General Samantha Vickery appeared for the government.
According to police, prior to the incident, the victim was outside a massage parlor establishment when he saw Yaping She heading toward his direction.
The victim said Yaping She, who was holding a yellow box cutter in her right hand, told him that she was going to cut him.
He said Yaping She then lunged with the box cutter in his direction multiple times as she walked toward him.
The victim said she also pulled her mask downwards and threatened to spit at him.
Two responding police officers who were posted at Kanoa Resort repeatedly asked Yaping She to drop the box cutter.
Police said the defendant turned toward the officers and started cussing at them.
One of the officers then drew his firearm, but pointed at the ground, and instructed her again to put the box cutter down.
When she finally put the box cutter down, she was arrested.
Police did not provide information on the relationship between the defendant and the victim or other details about the case.
