The event was planned, organized, and carried out by the Mekekerei el Chad el Oldubch ra Surangel & Billy el mo President & Vice President Committee (Young Adults [YA] Committee), which is co-chaired by Siegfried Nakamura, Surech Bells-Hideyos, and Tmetuchel Baules.
The format of the event allowed the audience to ask the candidates their questions and to facilitate real dialogue between the candidates and the young adult attendees. Both Surangel and Billy answered candidly about their commitments and plans for education, job opportunities and environment. “It was good to hear that our young adults are very concerned about these important issues and that they want to know the truth about our plans,” noted Presidential candidate, Surangel. The Q&A portion of the program was followed by Edward Anastacio singing the campaign theme song-Bolta Rengud and more entertainment by local musician, Malo, and a movie to close the gathering. “It was great to see the young adult voters attending an event that they felt comfortable enough to express themselves and ask pertinent questions,” added Surech Bells-Hideyos. The event followed the town hall meeting concept of hosting small gatherings that would provide a comfortable atmosphere for young adult voters to connect with the candidates as well have some fun activities. “We acted on the suggestions and feed-back from our committee members. We value their opinions and recognize the importance of their contributions”, commented Siegfried Nakamura, Esq. Tmetuchel Baules added, “Our YA Committee is serious. We have several other events planned based on our members’ suggestions.” The YA Committee is in the planning stages for other young adult voter events and will announce the information for the next event as they finalize their plans.
