THE most outstanding elementary school U9 and U12 division athletes earned the Most Valuable Player awards during an awards ceremony Monday for the 2022-2023 McDonald’s-PSS All School Athletics at McDonald’s Middle Road.
In the U9 girls division, Saipan International School’s Scarlett Burrell won the MVP award thanks to her contributions to her school’s first-place victory in the overall standings with 121 points. Burrell bagged two gold medals in the 100M and 200M events along with a silver in the 60M, and a bronze in the 400M.
In the U9 boys division, MVP Dean Aldan carried Koblerville Elementary School to the top of the overall standings with 91 points. Aldan likewise won gold in the 100M and 400M distances along with two bronze medals in the 60M and 800M events.
Gabriella Ruben is the MVP of the U12 girls division for her strong performance that propelled Oleai Elementary School to second place overall with a total of 90 points. She also dominated the sprinting events earning gold in the 60M, 100M and 200M, and placing fourth in the 400M
Taking the MVP title in the U12 boys division was Agape Christian School’s Reyviel Escarlan. Although ACS did not make it to the top five in the overall standings, he won gold in the 400M and 800M, and silver in the 200M and 1500M.
“On behalf of the Public School System, it is truly an honor and pleasure to work with McDonald’s and Northern Marianas Athletics and all the schools, public and private,” stated PSS Athletics Program Director Nick Gross. “We are really excited for the future of athletics. This year was an incredible comeback with one of the premiere tracks in Oceania,” he added.
