Kanoa, Southern United claim U14 soccer titles

THE Kanoa and Southern United football clubs reigned supreme in the finale of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League as they clinched their respective U14 division titles after defeating their foes on Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

The boys of Kanoa Football Club 1 defeated Matansa Football Club, 5-1.

KNFC 1 established control early as all five of their goals were scored in the opening half.

Their offensive pressure quickly overwhelmed MFC after Kanoa’s Maximus Taitano connected the first goal after just four minutes of play.

He continued to ride the momentum by scoring his second goal six minutes later to stretch the lead, 2-0.

With MFC unable to protect their end of the turf, Kanoa’s Rooney Gil delivered back-to-back goals at the 15th and 20th minute marks while team mate Taitano completed the hat-trick a minute later for his third goal of the day, extending their lead, 5-0.

MFC adjusted their defensive strategy in the second half and successfully shut down KNFC 1’s attacks. MFC’s persistence finally paid off at the 42nd minute mark with Bennet Haro drilling in his team’s first goal of the match.

MFC, however, could not muster enough strength to catch up and had to accept defeat, 1-5

Girls division

In the U14 girls division championship match, Southern United bested Kanoa, 2-0.

SUFC were quick to catch KNFC off guard, allowing Rosie Saralu to find the back of the net in just two minutes of play.

KNFC prevented further attacks but remained scoreless throughout the first half.

After returning from the halftime break, SUFC’s Saralu opened the second half with another quick push, slipping her second goal at the 25th minute mark to give her team a 2-0 lead.

With KNFC unable to break its silence, SUFC controlled the remaining minutes to win the championship.
