He observes and guides clients through movement principles that will allow them to train safely in any environment and with any equipment.

“This involves an awareness of our trunk stability, lower and upper body capabilities, strengths and areas to build on while performing effortless movements,” he added.

Diaz said he conducts total body training that supports an individual client’s fitness goals.

He usually recommends slow twitch training which includes movements similar to yoga or Pilates as well as therapeutic bodyweight and/or resistance band training.

This type of training is particularly helpful for clients preparing for  distance endurance activities such as ironman competitions — long distance swimming, running, biking.

As for fast twitch training, Diaz said it is for individuals or athletes who prefer explosive and fast movements.

This type of training can be performed with one’s bodyweight, resistance band, medicine ball, barbells, sprints, shuffles, dumbbells or kettlebells.

High-intensity interval training  or Tabata are other fitness options, Diaz said.

They require short spurts of explosive performance movements which Diaz said are  great for first responders — police officers, firefighters, paramedics and emergency ambulance crewmembers.

And then there is also hybrid approach which mixes the various training  options.

Diaz said any training program, if performed correctly and progressively, can help individuals meet their fitness goals.
