THE public health protocols implemented in response to the Covid-19 pandemic stalled the Belau Amateur Soft Association’s season in March last year.
Almost a year later, the group can finally move ahead, thanks to the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force.

BASA president Bryan Adelbai said the task force approved their reopening set for Feb. 7.
He said they were in the second round of the regular season when Covid-19 reached the CNMI and “changed everything.”
In his letter to Task Force Chairman Warren Villagomez, Adelbai said the Covid-19 pandemic “has affected everybody in so many ways that even our culture was altered.”
He said sports “has been one of the important components of our dynamic culture that was greatly affected.”
He added, “Covid-19 has impacted all of us mentally, socially that even today we still wonder when will things get back to normal. If a person has a health issue everything in his life is affected. Sports is one of the best ways to keep people stay in shape, healthy and happy,” Adelbai said.
BASA requested the task force “to grant us opportunity to re-open the softball league on the first week of February, which is on Feb. 7, 2021.”
Most of the team managers and players have been asking for the re-opening of the softball league, Adelbai told Villagomez.
He said as they prepare for the re-opening of the league, they have also received support from members of the business community, including Sherwin Williams regional director Loli Duenas who donated three five-gallon buckets of paint for the Dandan ball field dugouts.
