MRA launches 2021 Points Race Season

THE Marianas Race Association has begun its 2021 Points Race Season.

“Today, Marianas Racing Association welcomes you to our home, our future —  the Cow Town raceway park,” MRA president Charles V. Cepeda said in his remarks Sunday.

“Your support got us where we are today…with so many possibilities to come,” he added.

“In October 2019, the quest to bring back motocross to the CNMI kicked off with our very own vice president Cuki Alvarez calling for a meeting…. The temporary track (Kan Pacific) gave us a place to test the public’s interest in motocross, and definitely, there was interest, and we also saw so many kids coming out every Sunday. It was inspiring. We are coming back home and here we are today at Cow Town for our first official race day.”

Cepeda said “the future is clear — motocross is here to stay. It is really our vision to have the best motorsports facility that allows everyone to race in a competitive and safe environment. I’m sure nothing will stop us from achieving our goal which is to have a first-class facility. MRA is proud to say that we have members of all ages from the age of 3 to 60 years old. Cow Town is our home, we are family. Biba MRA!”

Asked about his thoughts regarding MRA’s  first official race day, Cepeda said, “Oh it’s great! There are a lot of people here, fans and riders. The track is absolutely ready.”

An official race is held once every month. Seven races should be held by June 2021. The top three of each class will be given the opportunity to use #1, #2, #3 plates.

Although racers are not required to participate in all seven events, the final points tally will be based on the seven races.

For their help and assistance to MRA, Cepeda said he and the association would like to thank Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Department of Public Lands Secretary Marianne Concepcion-Teregeyo, Department of Public Works Secretary James Ada, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Robert H. Hunter, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang and the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers.

At Cow Town on Sunday, riders participated in a ceremonial track walk to clear rocks that could cause harm. The track itself and the bikes were then blessed.

The results of the first points race will be highlighted in the next editions of Variety.
