THE Rendezvous IT&E Destroyers held onto the overall no. 2 spot in the Tuesday Division team standings of the 2023 SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League with a total of 15 wins after outlasting Black 8 Ideal Signs Rustlers, 7-6, on Tuesday, June 27, at the Rendezvous Restaurant, Saipan Vegas.
The Rustlers grasped the opening lead as Rowel “Cobra” Mariano bested Nolan Cultura in the first game of the Singles 8-Ball match.
The Destroyers recovered with three consecutive wins delivered by Roman Rodriguez, Rogel Caruana, and Rolly Villanueva to take over the driver’s seat, 3-1.
The Destroyers tried to widen their lead but they could not get the Rustlers off their back, and the two teams ended up splitting two matches.
The Destroyers, however, maintained the upper hand with smart placements throughout the next two singles and partners 8-ball matches.
Although defeat was inevitable, the Rustlers’ Ken Chen and Jerry Tiu managed to soften the blow by winning the third and final Partners 8-Ball match before bowing down to the Destroyers, 6-7.
