HAGU Lamun and Tokahao will vie for the championship of the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League after eliminating their respective opponents in the semifinal games Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
Hagu Lamun secured their spot in the finale by rallying past SUFA, 13-10.
SUFA drew first blood in the opening inning after not allowing any hits with three consecutive outs.
On their turn on offense, they scored three straight runs with Sonny Sablan and Paul Salalila rounding the bases due to the errors made by Hagu Lamun while Mel Manahane earned an RBI single before the two outs were made.
Pat Deleon Guerrero then kept the fire burning as he connected a single that brought in two more runs to add to his RBI count. He later touched home plate with the help of Tom Camacho’s single to give their team a comfortable 6-0 lead.
But SUFA’s reign was short-lived as Hagu Lamun staged a quick rally in the second inning. Red Camacho belted a solo homerun and three more runs were added by his team. As the bases filled once again, Dennis Cruz took over the spotlight by recoding a grand slam and adding four more runs as Hagu Lamun seized control, 8-6.
Although SUFA equalized with a solo homer from Maritita, Hagu Lamun responded with a run of their own to maintain the distance, 9-7.
After two silent innings, Hagu Lamun scored a run in the top of the sixth inning that was matched by Jun Salalila’s two-run homer.
But in the final inning, SUFA struggled with errors and allowed Hagu Lamun to pull away with three runs.
SUFA hit one more run, but it wasn’t enough as Hagu Lamun cruised to a 13-10 victory.
Tokahao vs Asahi
Tokahao made their way into the championship round by overpowering Asahi in five innings, 23-12.
Asahi started strong with six runs, highlighted by Masao’s three-run homer. But Tokahao responded with five runs in the bottom of the opening inning.
Asahi then scored two runs but Tokahao delivered five to take the lead by the end of the second inning, 9-8.
Asahi kept the offensive pressure going with three more runs in the top of the third inning to regain control.
However, Tokahao suddenly exploded with back-to-back homeruns courtesy of Jojo Attao and Bruce Narita while George David and Jeff Cruz also hit a homerun each as their team raced to a 22-11 lead.
Both teams scored another run in the fourth inning but after Asahi failed to score in the top of the fifth inning, they decided to wave the white flag.
