THE Hot Shots earned their first win in the ladies division of the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League by pummeling Lady Sufa, 25-3, Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.

The Hot Shots set the tone early as they rounded the bases in the opening inning.  Lady Sufa snagged the first out after two hits, but they failed to stop the Hot Shots’ subsequent offensive burst.

Janica Lizama started the scoring spree with an RBI single while Janice Celis kept the fire burning with a two-RBI single followed by two more runs to give the Hot Shots  a comfortable 5-0 advantage.

Their lead continued to grow as more runs were added by Mardina Kaipat who bagged a two-RBI triple and Celis who collected two more RBIs for a total of 15 runs before Lady Sufa could stop the bleeding.

Lady Sufa’s Sheena Maratita’s scored an RBI double, but they continued to struggle and were down 1-15 at the end of the inning.

The Hot Shots, for their part, kept the fuel burning, delivering seven more runs that included Nish Mario’s three-run homer to extend their lead, 22-1, while Lady Sufa failed to score in the second inning.

Nevertheless, Lady Sufa  improved their defense and held the Hot Shots to just three runs in the top of the third.

Lady Sufa’s Noreen Angui then hit a solo homerun and one more run made off an error, but the game ended after just three innings due to the mercy rule after the Hot Shots stormed to a 25-3 lead.

Lady Blue Jays vs Team BDE

The Lady Blue Jays bagged their second consecutive win by edging Team BDE,  11-10.

Team BDE grasped the early lead with Bel Igitol and Verily Secharmidal earning separate RBIs in the opening inning while squeezing in four more in the top of the second highlighted by Kyona Tudela’s two-RBI single for a 6-0 lead.

But the Lady Blue Jays  gradually worked their way back into the fight in the next three innings. It started in the bottom of the second with two runs and another in the third.

Then in the bottom of the fourth, Lady Blue Jays’ Kiana Aldan earned two RBIs while team mate Rachel Salalila hit a two-run homer that was followed by one more run in the fifth to snatch the lead, 8-6.

Team BDE was still in the fight, however, as they took advantage of an error for a single run in the top of the sixth inning. They then regained the lead, 10-8, thanks to the three runs contributed by Allana Sumang with two RBIs and another via error.

But the Lady Blue Jays stepped up during crunch time, slipping two runs followed by Salalila’s game-winning solo homerun to notch victory, 11-10.
