Men’s Doubles 40
Wessel and Pangelinan were opponents in the MD 50 division but they played as a team in the MD 40 division.
Their opponents were Jun Javier and Ronnie Lacbayo who established control early in the first set. The ability to send lob returns was the tandem’s bread and butter as it bought them time to recover and finish with a smash to stay ahead.
Pangelinan and Wessel fought hard but Javier and Lacbayo played stronger to win the first set, 6-2.
In the second set, Wessel was the aggressor who unleashed front hand power hits while Pangelinan excelled in returns.
But Javier and Lacbayo stayed on their toes as their lob strategy continued to work in their favor, resulting in a tiebreaker.
Pangelinan and Wessel, however, proved to be more persistent, clinching victory in the second set, (6)7-3.
In the third and final set, both teams gave it their all, but in the end Javier and Lacbayo who reigned supreme with a flurry of finishes for a 10-6 victory to claim the championship.
