Lakay, Vizion Insurance triumph in basketball tourney

LAKAY and Vizion Insurance continue to climb the ladder in the open division of the Saipan Centennial Lions Club Basketball League after earning separate wins Thursday at the TSL Sports Complex.

Lakay collected their seventh win of the season after outplaying HBR 91-78.

Lakay’s chemistry and offensive prowess kept them in control of the opening quarter as Basa and BJ Palacios displayed their range with a triple each while Quan and Rabauliman kept the pressure alive from the perimeter with a combined eight points to give their team a 21-11 advantage.

Their lead continued to grow in the second canto as the rest of the team started to join the offensive run. Jandoc found his rhythm and delivered nine points while Escano and Gant contributed six points apiece for a comfortable lead, 50-29.

In the third quarter, HBR tried to get back in the game and greatly reduced Lakay’s production. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough.

In the final quarter, Lakay’s Romo and Sapo exploded with 18 points combined to secure victory for their team, 91-78.

Vizion Insurance vs MDC

Vizion Insurance was the second team to taste victory on Thursday as they slipped past MDC, 82-80.

It was a seesaw battle from start to finish with the teamwork of MDC edging Vizion Insurance 20-18 in the first quarter.

Vizion Insurance then took the lead in the second quarter, 42-37, thanks to Rueda’s hot hands.

But MDC managed to overcome Rueda’s presence in the third canto and regained the upper hand, 64-61, with Tengco converting 11 points.

In the final quarter, MDC failed to contain Rueda and Pastrana as Vizion Insurance seized the lead once again.

MDC was forced to foul in order to stop the clock but failed to connect the game-tying shot. Vizion Insurance won, 82-80.
