FOR the past six seasons, Grace Christian Academy dominated the NMIVA-PSS Girls High and Junior High School Volleyball tournaments. Next year, however, four GCA players, who are senior students, will no longer be on the team.
Hye Jin Elliott, Katriel Saures, Soleil Lamar and Vicky Wan have helped GCA win volleyball titles since they were in sixth grade.
Elliot is known for her ability to “kill” via powerful and quick spike returns. Saures, for her part, is the setter with a great mindset for positioning. Lamar is a threat from the serving line while Wan is an all-around supporter.
“I feel sad because we’ve been playing volleyball together since sixth grade,” Elliot said. “We made so many memories together, and to leave this? Man.”
Saures said she has faith in GCA’s younger players. “I believe our team can still win championships because they’ve been training, and they are just as good!”
Wan said she “would like to thank the team, coaches and parents who worked really hard for us every morning and afternoon and for always putting us as the priority.”
Lamar is also “thankful that we have a great team whose members support each other. And thank you to our supporters and coordinators who worked behind the scenes.”
