Among the eight sports confirmed by the Pacific Games Council, five are currently played in the CNMI: beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, canoe (va’a), athletics, and sailing.
The rest include rugby 7s, taekwondo, and weightlifting.
Relative to the first five sports, the Northern Marinas Athletics Association, Northern Marianas Islands Volleyball Association, Over the Reef Yacht Club, or Northern Marianas Islands Kanu Racing Association may submit a written notice of intention to participate should they choose to compete in 2013.
The written notice must be submitted to the Northern Marianas Islands Amateur Association by November 3 and signed by the federation’s president or secretary general.
According to Laurie Peterka, the NMIVA has yet to discuss its plans for the Mini Games.
Tony Stearns told Variety that the ORYC “hopes” to send a team, while NMA’s Elias Rangamar confirmed two to three athletes.
Participating federations are also asked to specify whether they will compete in men or women’s competitions or both.
“I am hoping that we will be well-represented at W&F 2013, and I urge each of these four federations to express their intention to participate,” said NMASA president Michael White.
This will be the ninth edition of the Mini Games since 2009 at the Cook Islands.
