Carey, Dizon win at Bike For Life

Carey, who edged Lewie Tenorio by mere milliseconds, posted one hour, 37 minutes, and 25 seconds to beat an all-male pool in the 50-kilometer open road bike division. While Tenorio came in second, Willy Barbo arrived on scene to win third place at 1:45:45.

Dizon defeated fellow veteran Rennan “Butch” Sublemente with one hour, 40 minutes, and 28 seconds in the 50km open mountain bike division.

Sublemente, scheduled to compete in the 2011 XTERRA World Championship next month, arrived in second place with 1:42:50. Third place winner Antonee Aguilar timed in at 1:55:17.

Susan Marchitti was the first female mountain biker to reach the finish line with two hours, 29 minutes, and 41 seconds.

The shorter 30km mountain bike course drew more than half the race’s participants, with Hopwood Junior High School student Erico Castro beating 74 other cyclists. Castro scored the best time with one hour, 10 minutes, and 24 seconds and claimed the men’s division title. Robert Oropesa and Ricky Melchor came in second and third with 1:11:34 and 1:13:18, respectively.

Kimiko Hasegawa dominated the women’s division with one hour, 27 minutes, and 57 seconds. Joann Salazar rallied to second place at 1:30:15 and Juanita Fajardo won third with 1:40:04.

Out of 106 bikers, seven did not complete the race.

The 50km course cruised through Airport and Kagman Road, Chalan Talafofo, and American Memorial Park before heading back to PIC via Beach Road.

In the 30km course, riders made their way through Isa Drive and the Mt. Tapochau trail.
