670 Rollers celebrated twice as hard on the first day of the 2nd Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club – Saipan MagaHaga Lady Eagles Group Basketball Tournament as both of their teams defeated their respective adversaries in the U17 division at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Sunday.

670 Rollers 1 collected their first win in a tough battle against Triple R Auto Parts, 60-54.

The first half of the game was filled with two-man action coming from both ends of the court.

Triple R’s go-to man was Lucero as his height and ability to finish at the rim wreaked havoc inside the paint, scoring 12 points while his partner, Navarro, added range into the mix.

On the other end, Rollers 1 had Helgen at the frontline as he punished defenders with the same inside approach to score eight points while teammate Pineda delivered six straight points.

Rollers 1 led 26-24 going into halftime, but the lead changed   hands throughout the second half.

Lucero and Navarro scored back-to-back buckets while Rollers 1’s Pineda and Helgen equalized with offensive highlights to keep their team afloat.

In the final five minutes of the game, Triple J started to lose touch as Navarro was shut down forcing Peters and Quizon to step up. Although they executed their roles, they struggled to keep up on the defensive end as Rollers 1 converted clutch shots to maintain the upper hand.

After Triple R was forced to foul in order to stop the clock, Helgen sank two free throws that were followed by a daggering bucket to seal the win for Rollers 1, 60-54.

Rollers 2 vs Sophia Althea/Cafe Merake
