U.S. Congressional Delegate candidate, former Lt. Gov. Jessie Borja launched the league with his opening remarks during the opening ceremony that started at 8 a.m.
Five games were played with Armatech and Joeten Super Store breaking it off in the first match-up.
Both teams came close with each other after the first quarter, but the game started to tip in Armatech’s favor afterward.
Armatech’s Junar Guiab provided a quick boost of lay-ups giving them their first four points in the second quarter. Elmer Esdrelon took over the three-point line and fired a couple of shots, adding siix points for Armatech.
Players from Joeten Super Store could not catch up by the late second half. After a huge contribution from Esdrelon and Guiab, Brendon Talania and Budz Camacho took over the court, slamming 27 points – 17 of them from the third and fourth quarter.
The final scores resulted in 74-64, with Armatech gaining their first victory.
MBI Right Guard 112, Tropical Laundry 71
MBI Right Guard blew Tropical Laundry away during the last of the five games, 112-71.
Many of Tropical Laundry’s players could not catch up with Right Guard’s Ivan De Vero, who was able to slip some easy lay-ups early in the game. Rex Yabut offered some points to Right Guard with several handy steals from Tropical’s loosely thrown passes across the court.
Right Guard jumped to a huge lead ahead of Tropical Laundry, scoring 29-10 by the end of the first quarter.
Tropical Laundry progressed slowly, moving up to only 21 points after the first half, while Right Guard piled up another 33 points by the second quarter, totaling their score to 62.
Rex Yabut became the game’s score leader, whose individual score amounted to 34 points, after his brief shooting spree in the late fourth quarter.
