“The Northern Marianas Athletics is inviting all sports federations, clubs and schools to participate in our annual Athletics championships this Friday and Saturday May 27-28 at the Oleai Sports Complex,” said meet director Elias Rangamar in an email to the Marianas Variety.
The Variety learned that the age divisions in this weekend’s meet include the boys and girls’ U14, U18, and the open division both men and women.
The Variety was also told that ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in every event. Registration forms can be picked up daily from 4-7 pm at the Oleai Track Complex and will be available an hour before the event this Friday.
The registration fee is $1.00 for 18 and under participants and $2.00 for adults. Proceeds will go towards the fundraising efforts for the upcoming 2011 Pacific games in New Caledonia.
“We are seeking and encouraging federations and sports clubs to form a team and help our CNMI athletes prepare for their upcoming off island competitions,” said Rangamar.
“A medley relay, which consists of two males and two females, will be the showcase event on the last day of the meet. The breakdown of the relay will be: first leg- 100m (female), 2nd leg- 100m (male), 3rd leg- 200m (female), last leg – 400m (male),” explained Rangamar.
