Swim mate Lukas Kang was able to set a new CNMI record as well in the 100m backstroke clocking in at 1:34.11.
Kang and Yanai were able to set new CNMI records together in the 50m breaststroke event. The former posted 48.35 while the latter clocked in at 50.93.
“Congratulations to Lukas and Ryuto. We are all very proud of them for setting new CNMI records,” said Tsunami head Coach Hiroyuki Kimura.
The Variety learned that Tsunami swimmer Riyana Camacho got BB-time in the 50m backstroke and became the 17th qualifier for the upcoming Guam Championships this weekend.
“I and her mother discussed about her participation and we decided that she will not go to Guam this season because she is still young and will have a lot of chance to participate in future off-island meets in the season to come,” explained Coach Kimura.
“We understand that it will be best to let her concentrate and to keep practicing for improvement. We agreed to target next season’s Guam meet. Anyways, great job Riyana,” added Kimura.
The Variety also learned that Miku Tammy marked two more qualify times for this weekend’s Guam meet while Kenichi Shirata and David Yang were finally able to cut 40 seconds in the 50m freestyle event officially.
“Miku has marked faster times than 40 seconds during team time trials but it is his first time to get an official result,” said Kimura.
“I saw a lot of great competitions last Saturday and I’m so glad to see them. Thank you very much for your best,” added Kimura.
The Tsunami Swim Club will now be gearing up for this weekend’s Guam Championships at the Hagatna Pool Center as well as the international open Flipper Tournament this coming June.
“It is very impressive to see the kids come to the pool each day, work hard and see the results of their hard work. These experiences will stay with them throughout their lives,” said NMSF President Stan Good.
“Hard work equals results and in turn success in whatever they choose to pursue. We really appreciate Coach Kimura and Mrs. Kimura for their total dedication to the team and as always, thank you parents for your continual support,” Stan added.
