“Every person who walks in the door, there was a small fee to help with the donation. And all the donation that we raised; the Basketball Association of the NMI decided to donate it to the Rotary Club of Saipan,” said league coordinator Gabriel White.
He went on to say, “And if you all remember we have the Rotary Youth League coming up and for the past going on 20 years the Rotary Club has supported your development, through us, for basketball.”
Rotary Club of Saipan President Glenn Perez was present during the closing ceremony to receive the check for $633.66 from BANMI.
“Recently when the Japan tsunami/earthquake happened the Rotary International established in Japan a disaster/relief fund and as of March 25th of this month we’ve raised over $500,000 that will go to Sendai and Ikushima Rotary Clubs that will go ahead and help members and families, and the community in those areas,” said Perez.
He also said, “Thailand, Cambodia, and one of the clubs in Japan already raised $65,000 to purchase water for 15,000 individuals that are currently staying in shelters.”
The Rotary Club of Saipan is scheduled to kick off soon so all interested participants are asked to gear up for another good tournament.
