SOME believe that if they step into a gym or start a healthier lifestyle, they will see dramatic results in a few days or weeks. When the anticipated progress is nowhere to be seen, many give up.
Certified personal trainer Jerry Diaz, who is accredited by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, keeps his clients from getting discouraged.
“Providing encouragement and maintaining client motivation is the centerpiece of personal training,” Diaz said, “Any personal trainer can have the best facility, equipment, and training approach, but if the client is not continuously stimulated to grow and stay motivated, then that individual will eventually stray from the path.”
A reason to keep going
Results will give an individual a reason to keep going. But results may vary and they depend on an individual’s condition, age, genes, environment, body type, current fitness level, knowledge, motivation and access to proper training regimen that matches their fitness goals, Diaz said.
“Each individual generally requires a specific type of training,” he added.
When certain exercises do not produce results with a certain body type, one must explore other training approaches, Diaz said.
Each individual has unlimited options especially when training with a trainer or a fitness group.
“The most important approach is to stay motivated and focused on the reason why the individual started their fitness journey in the first place,” Diaz said.
It is OK not to see immediate success, he added.
“Each day can be a productive fitness day that brings the individual closer to their fitness goal. It is up to the individual to keep exploring and finding out which training and nutrition works or doesn’t. The most important mindset is to accept that success is long term,” he said.
