Marchitti won’t reveal the exact details of this year’s route of the annual motor sports but assured it will be a longer drive with additional excitements for the participants.
Since they have already proven themselves having figured out how to win the competition, previous participants, Marchitti said have requested to make this year’s event a little bit harder.
Giving in to their demand, she said the car rally next month will take a longer route and will require sharper wits and keener eyes. Last year’s 17 participants drove 32 miles of Saipan major thorough fares and nook and crannies.
Enthusiasts, Marchitti hinted will have to get out of their car and do some searches in what is called “the scavenger hunt.”
That is as far as she can reveal. Enough. No more clues. Remember, more challenging this time.
And of course, about the prize, Marchitti said “we are working on a lot of surprises,” as she wants to thank the group of sponsors that includes the Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Brown Tree Snake program, the American Red Cross, Budget Car Rental and Joeten Enterprises.
Marchitti said car rally which was introduced on the island two years ago is a form or motoring competition on public or private road where participants have to tap a navigator to work closely with the driver in witting their way to each stations all the way to the finish line.
Along the way, the participants are given instructions that vary from one converging point to another. Instructions may contain tricks, traps and puzzling diagrams designed to steer them off course.
“So it’s important to pay close attention and remain alert,” the rally master said.
Questions which pertain to the course shall be answered to stay on track. There will be items to find or collect that shall be presented at each check point.
The competition is timed but is not a race. The winners are the driver and his navigators that best match speed, time and distance requirement with greatest precision.
Importantly, all traffic and safety law will be enforced.
This year’s rally, Marchitti said is open to visitors, company sponsored teams and drivers 16 years old and over. Registration forms are available in Beach Road Magazine and can be dropped at the Transpac Business Center along Middle Road in Gualo Rai.
