THE Blue Jays lived to fight another day after eliminating the Marlins, 25-18, in the first round of the SBL Masters League playoffs at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Wednesday.

The Marlins’ Walter Macaranas drew first blood by bringing in a single run via an RBI walk to give his team the lead, 1-0, in the first inning.

Their margin continued to grow in the second inning with nine more runs scored, highlighted by Eric Tudela and Manny Villagomez with two RBIs each.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Marlins were still in control, outing the first two Blue Jays at bat.

But the Marlins’ defense suddenly collapsed, allowing the Blue Jays to score 21 runs and take over the driver’s seat, 21-10.

The Marlins tried to cut down the deficit with five runs in the third and another run in the top of the fourth, but the Blue Jays scored three runs in the bottom of the third to remain afloat, 24-16.

The Blue Jays scored another run in the bottom of the sixth while the Marlins  notched two runs in the top of the seventh and final inning before accepting defeat, 18-25.
