That night, the UFO-Budweiser Cup saw Cabalen-Noni outmuscle MDX-Blue Haus, 79-69, while in the UFO Masters-Docomo Pacfic Cup, Cabalen-Wings Travel soared high over SAFSWO-Ebisuya, 91-66.
In the Bud Cup matchup, Noni and MDX looked dead even throughout most of the game.
Noni won the first quarter behind Bon Tamayo’s strong 12-point opening performance to spark the team’s 22-point period.
Lerio Pagarao picked up the scoring responsibility in the second with his nine points.
But MDX was always on their heels scoring 19 in the first and 20 in the second to Noni’s 19-point second quarter. And as a result, Noni was only up by two heading into halftime.
Once the buzzer sounded to signal the start of the third quarter, MDX went to work, playing hard-nose defense and outscoring Noni, 18-13. They went into the fourth period up by three, 57-54.
Noni was shaken, but kept their poise and went on an offensive tear with 25 points, led by Tamayo, who exploded for 13 points in the final ten minutes of play.
They never looked back and won by ten.
Noni’s Tamayo scored a game-high 31 points, while his teammate, Kae Bernardo posted 20 strong ones. Pagarao finished with 13.
MDX had Zack Babauta as the their leading scorer with 14. Dexter Tenorio helped him out with 11. Ben Lisua was the only other MDX player in double-figures with ten.
