CHOJU outlasted Savemore in game 2 of their championship series, 64-58, to bag the season 2 title of the Legends Sports Association Invitational Basketball League at the TSL Sports Complex on Saturday evening.

Choju started hot with three-pointers — two from Jay Art Palmes and one from Tom Pangelinan — to establish control of the tempo.

But with the return of Getsen Jandoc and Julius Domine, Savemore showed more confidence in creating scoring opportunities. The duo helped control the boards while teammate Mark Malinay led the onslaught with 18 points including four triples.

Choju responded by grabbing offensive and defensive rebounds while continuing their bombardment from behind the arc to grasp a slight advantage going into halftime, 32-30.

Choju picked up where they left off during the start of the second half with two triples by Gerald Mamis and one by Kaipo Dikito.

Savemore slowly reduced the deficit with Martin Moreno and Malinay at the frontline. However, their offensive fouls and turnovers allowed Choju’s Dom Faisao to unleash eight points and seal the deal, 64-58.

Choju not only claimed the title, but they also ended the season with an undefeated record.

“Awesome,” Coach Matt Iguel said. “We fought hard. Savemore was a good team, but we were just better. We have all-around players — guards, forwards, center. Thanks for the league for hosting us,” he added.

Gerald Mamis, who converted three triples in the championship game, was grateful to be named Finals MVP. “I feel happy that I got this title, but it was really a team effort — I didn’t do this by myself. Hard work was the key and we pulled through in the end,” Mamis said.
