DANDAN Middle School’s boys track & field and athletics team successfully defended their title by accumulating a total of 111 points to win the overall middle school boys division championship of the McDonald’s-PSS All School Track and Field (Athletics) SY23-24, which concluded Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
One of DMS’ leading athletes was Peter Camacho. On Friday, he won his first gold in the javelin throw with a distance of 34.65m. ACS’ Daniel Yang came in second at 30.60m while Tinian Jr/Sr High School’s Jerdon Cruz finished third at 28.56m.
For his part, DMS’ Austin Camacho covered enough distance to secure a bronze medal in the long jump with a distance of 4.52m. FMS’ Changwhan Ryu claimed gold with a leading mark of 4.90m while TIN’s Cristofe Patio settled for silver with 4.58m.
DMS’ Cesario Crisostomo secured a silver medal in the shotput event, throwing a distance of 9.52m while teammate Kunni Cepeda took home the bronze with 9.38m. TJHS’ Kymani Nabors covered 11.25m to win the gold.
Camacho claimed bronze in the 100m sprints with a time of 13.00. Mount Carmel School’s gold medal winner, Jayson Tagabuel, clocked 12.76 while FMS’ silver medalist, Changwhan Ryu, crossed the finish line at 12.77.
Camacho won another bronze in the 400m distance with a time of 1:02.20 following first place Yang at 58.22 and his ACS teammate, Raffy Cai, who came in second at 1:01.79.
Austin Camacho won silver in the 200m event with a time of 26.25 while Peter Camacho took the bronze at 26.53. The gold medal went to MCS’ Tagabuel, who clocked 25.97.
DMS bagged the gold in the 4x100m relay with a time of 51.80. FMS settled for silver at 52.24 while ACS received bronze at 54.41.
In the 4x400m relay, DMS took home the bronze with a finish time of 4:30.44. ACS claimed gold at 4:26.17 while FMS won silver at 4:27.52.
DMS emerged at the top of the ladder with a total of 111 points to clinch the overall title.
Next were ACS with 92 points, and FMS with 56 points.
“It’s a great feeling [winning the title for the second time],” said DMS teacher and co-coach Simon Necesito. “I’m still surprised with how our kids performed this year. They have shown us that through hard work and passion, anything is possible!”
He said proper training and learning the fundamentals helped DMS excel in athletics.
Necesito recognized and thanked his co-coaches, Jeri Mae Tudela, Jerry Bahillo and Emirina Chong, and on their behalf thanked Northern Marianas Athletics as well as the DMS Student Council Advisory Panel and PTSA for their support.
