Dolphins stay strong in JV caging

Despite his scoreless first quarter, Cenir led the Dolphins with 15 points while Erick Dela Rosa and Michael Mancao tallied six and two, respectively.

Both teams came neck and neck in the opening eight minutes, scoring 2-2. The ball swung back and forth as players missed on multiple attempts.

Cenir’s free throw was exactly what the Dolphins needed to gain ground. His versatile jump shots proved useful against Kagman High’s Jason Lampkin.

Lampkin learned from his mistakes however, and upset Cenir with a rejection 14 minutes into the first half. Michael Mancao’s presence improved the Dolphins’ offense by the third quarter. Mancao scored his only basket past Kagman’s Jason Santos.

Even with Lampkin getting by Dela Rosa, the Ayuyus failed to recover their five-point deficit. MHS slowly widened the gap with a 17-10 lead 30 seconds before the final quarter. Constant steals from Mancao and Joel Chan kept the Dolphins one-step ahead.

Lampkin tallied 10 points and Jacob Palacios scored three. Anthony Santos, Rodigan Jepen, and Brandon Santos earned two-points each.

Marianas High’s John Capuyon capped the afternoon with a last-minute layup, marking the Dolphins’ second win.

Varsity results from both schools were not available at press time. MHS is scheduled to face Saipan Southern High School tomorrow.
