Dolphins win Belau Masters Softball championship

Pepi Tenorio and Ivan Igitol fired the decisive singles to lift the Dolphins past Peleliu in the first game, 11-10, then, Gene Weaver and Peoris Besong’s singles established the lead in the early inning during the second game to beat the Peleliu again, 8-2.

The Dolphins also bagged the pennant award losing only twice to Salty Boys in the regular season.

The Peleliu on the other hand took the big leap when they upset Choll Aces during the playoff last July 27 then, stunned the Salty Boys in the semi finals last week to clinch the championship berth.

Gene Weaver and Peoris Besong knocked in run-scoring singles to secure the lead in a four-run second inning, and Larry Sebaklim moved to scoring position with a double then, scored the gap-widening run in the fourth inning.

The Pelelius only had one run from Henry Litulumar’s single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Paul Ogumoro hit a single before Sylvanus Santos’ walked him to scoring position.  However, James Kintol batted too short and Dolphins’ second baseman, Ivan Igitol tagged Ogumoro out in the second base, then, Brian Adelbai missed Besong’s fourth pitch leaving Santos stranded in the first base.

Dolphins’ first baseman and center fielder, Inos Yamada fielded Peleliu’s in-field flies and Donald Flores grounder in the sixth inning to freeze single hitters, Charley Kenty and Henry Litulumar, allowing only Dennis Renguul to score a run.

Jess Omar walked against Flores in the seventh inning then stole second before Yamada batted him home. Ed Kapileo rocketed a fly ball to the Peleliu right fielder, Fuanes Denzino who missed the ball to allow Yamada to score run then, Ivan Igitol walked Kapileo to scoring position.

Kapileo stole third and batted home before left fielder, Santos caught Jack Diaz’ fly ball.

Ivan Igitol had three RBIs and had five base hits out of eighth bats in the two games; Jess Omar and Kapileo went 3-for-6.
