OUTSTANDING elementary school athletes were also honored during the awards ceremony of the McDonald’s-PSS All School Track and Field (Athletics) SY23-24 season at McDonald’s main branch on Middle Road Thursday last week.
In the U9 female division, Saipan International School’s Olivia Walsh was named the MVP. She had a stellar performance throughout the season, which concluded last month, winning gold medals in the 1500m, 800m and 400m events along with a silver in the 4x400m and a bronze in the 4x100m.
In the U9 male division, Kagman Elementary School’s Davirey Indalecio was the MVP. He won gold medals in the 200m, 100m, 60m and 4x100m events, and helped his school earn a silver medal in the overall team standings.
As for the U12 female division, the MVP award was given to William S. Reyes’ Anica Aquino for collecting gold medals in the 100m, 60m, 4x400m events and the softball throw as well winning a silver in the 400m.
As for the U12 male division, Francisco Moses was named MVP for leading Tinian Elementary School to its ever championship title. Moses’s medal hauled consisted of a gold in the 4x400m, a silver in the 200m, long jump and 4x100m, and a bronze in the 1,500m.
Aquino, 11, said she didn’t expect to be the MVP. She thought that she was slow, but it turned out that she was actually fast, despite the fact that it was her first time competing in athletics. Her favorite events were the softball throw and the 100m race. As for the recently concluded season, she said, “It was very fun.”
Indalecio said he was “excited and proud” to receive the MVP award. The 9-year-old said his favorite event was the 200m while the hardest one was the relay.
Moses, who was also an MVP in the previous season of the All School Cross Country series, thanked his family, coaches and team for their support.
