THE NMI’s Eleven Tiger Football Club edged Guam’s Wings Football Club, 2-1, in the Marianas Club Championship at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Saturday.
Sponsored by the East Asian Football Federation, the match started evenly as both teams filled the field with endless back-and-forth action.
Throughout the opening half, Eleven Tiger controlled most of the possessions with several attempted shots. Wings also had their fair share of close calls but Eleven Tiger’s goalkeeper Jamin Elliot prevented them from finding the back of the net.
The battle for control continued throughout the second half. After Wings made a substitution, Eleven Tiger’s Tanapon Unsa connected the first goal of the day at the 54th minute mark for a 1-0 lead.
Eleven Tiger continued to ride the momentum as they controlled the pace and managed to earn another scoring opportunity thanks to Sunjoon Tenorio, who beat a defender on the break and connected the shot over a defender to extend the deficit, 2-0.
Wings’ Yvan Tcheugoue broke his team’s silence at the 90+3 minute mark before they settled for defeat,1-2.
