Geckos lead high school race in Cross Country qualifier

THE Saipan International School Geckos led the high school division of the Public School System’s All-School Cross Country third qualifying round at Banzai Cliff on Saturday.

The event was co-hosted by PSS Athletics Program and SIS Gecko 5000.

The last qualifier will kick-off at 6:30 a.m., this Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024 at the Airport Field.

Last Saturday, in the boys division, SIS’ Nash Santos led the race, clocking 18 minutes and 49 seconds.

In second place was Agape Christian School’s Raffy Cai, who completed the race in 19 minutes and eight seconds, followed by  Marianas High School Dolphins’ Takeru Jim, who finished third with a time of 19 minutes and 15 seconds.

In the girls division, SIS Geckos’ Addalee Taflinger finished first by clocking 23 minutes and 34 seconds, followed by ACS’ Sablina Shen at 24 minutes and 32 seconds. Lucy Hong, also of ACS, came in third at 26 minutes.

Dandan Middle School’s Jacob Encabo led the middle school boys with a time of 14 minutes and 16 seconds. Taking second place was ACS’s Lucas Yang, who was behind Encabo by three seconds. Yuxi Lu, also of ACS and the first qualifying round leader, finished third at 14 minutes and 36 seconds.

In the girls division, Saipan Community School’s Alyssa Pailin Brasuell was first with a time of 15:21; second was SIS’ Faith Arriola at 15:54; and third was SIS’ Scarlett Bernell at 16:01.

In the elementary boys race, Grace Christian Academy’s Beau Bauer took first place, clocking seven minutes and five seconds.

In second place was San Vicente Elementary School’s O’marion Reyes at 7 minutes and 29 seconds, followed by SIS’s Walsh Gabriel, who claimed third place by edging Brilliant Star School’s Declan Spaeth.

In the girls division, BSS’s LoVel Spaeth dominated the race, clocking seven minutes and six seconds. Coming in second was BSS’s Claire Fehrenbacker at eight minutes and four seconds while SIS’s Kaylen Taflinger finished third at eight minutes and 20 seconds.
