HOPWOOD Middle School and Dandan Middle School manhandled their respective opponents in the opening games of the IT&E-PSS Interscholastic Basketball League’s  boys middle school division on Wednesday at the Marianas High School gym.

Hopwood earned their first win of the season by outscoring Chacha Ocean View Middle School, 29-13.

HMS swiftly set the pace in the opening half thanks to the work of Jequinn Lizama and Jay Ruwayngeg. The pair constantly harassed COVMS on the defensive end, and with each successful stop, they capitalized on the other end with eight points apiece.

Liam Wilson managed to shed some light for COVMS with five points, including a three-pointer, followed by a bucket by Payton Pangelinan to trail 6-16.

COVMS continued to struggle to get the ball past half court due to the constant defensive pressure. HMS, for their part, thrived as Josh Lizama and Jerico Manuel added extra firepower with four points each during the second half en route to victory, 29-13.
