Team DFS Galleria stretched a one-point lead in the last seven minutes and muscled their way to an 87-79 win in the 3rd Annual Shirley’s Basketball League at the Gillette Multipurpose.
DFS improved to their seventh win on Tuesday, clinching the league’s number two spot behind Mobil’s 7-1 record.
Pete Lizama gave DFS a scare in the third quarter’s closing minutes, forcing two turnovers and knocking a three-pointer to lift PIC ahead, 62-64. James Abuy and Bon Tamayo snuck two triples to outrun their foes, 24-12.
However, Quincy Johnson held DFS’ lead with two field goals and a three-pointer with five minutes to go.
Jack Lizama finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds and keeping Glen Aquino off the ball before the buzzer. He tallied two assists and four steals. Teammate Junar Guiab posted six points and 12 assists.
PIC’s top guns James Abuy and Pete Lizama earned 18 points apiece and scored 11 of their last 15 points.
DFS kept on pace, switching players to throw them off track. Iguel hammered a trio of three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes and crawled his way to eight more points by the second half.
His right handed layup and Johnson’s late-game shots led to PIC’s demise with 1:09 left on the clock. Johnson scored 15 points with five assists and two steals. Iguel pulled away on 34 points.
PIC now ranks fourth at six wins and three losses, right behind Fiesta Resort and Spa.

Fiesta routs McGraw Hill, 86-82 in OT
In Tuesday’s first game, team Fiesta Resort and Spa held on long enough to edge Public School System-McGraw Hill, 86-82 in overtime.
Ivan Devero slowly outran Dave Sablan in the offense, scoring six of Fiesta’s 10 points during OT. Elmer Esdrelon led the pack with 33 points after a 15-point rally in the third quarter.
McGraw Hill had earlier wiped out an 11-point deficit, keeping Esdrelon and Jawn Joyner off the basket to even the game, 79-79.
Esdrelon, who shot six three-pointers, scored his final triple in the final period and went 2-for-2 in free throws by overtime.
McGraw Hill dominated the fourth period on a 25-14 run, but came on the losing end after Sablan’s failed attempts at the basket. Kelvin Fitial and James Villacrusis — who piled 35 points — came up empty in the extra five minutes.
Devero and Joyner drew double digits at 12 points each while Bruce Berline and Ernie Moises scored 10 apiece. The win settles Fiesta’s spot in the league’s top three.
McGraw Hill ended the regular season in fifth place at five wins and four losses.
