ISK8 initiated the clean up campaign in preparation for the skate park’s grand opening, according to the group’s president, Johanna Arellano.
After it was completed several months ago, the skate park which ISK8 worked so hard to obtain turned into a mess by some people who filled it with graffiti.
“Let’s just hope it’ll stay that way until the actual grand opening,” Arellano said, noting success of that the graffiti removal project.
Although not all skaters were able to make it, Arellano said they received more helping hands than they expected.
“You’ve all heard about the graffiti that had been placed upon the skate park? Well, look at it now! It’s clean!” Arellano said, hoping that those responsible in messing the park with graffiti would not do it again.
For her part, Laurie Peterka, a supporter of ISK8 is thanking Marianas Islands Insurance Association for their generous donation of $500 to help kick off what ISK8 hopes to be a year-long effort at attacking the graffiti issues in Saipan.
She said ISK8 also wants to help the Saipan Mayor’s office maintain cleanliness at the Japanese Cultural Center across from the skate park.
After the skate park clean up, ISK8 members, officers and volunteers rewarded themselves with pizza.
Those who volunteered also received some pretty cool stuffs like stickers, DVDs, and posters.
ISK8 also want to thank Soledad, former manager of Borderline.
“We not only succeeded in getting the graffiti removed, but we also gave the skaters something to look forward to,” Arellano said.
