TAKERU Jim and Shawna Brennfleck proved they’re ready for the 2025 Pacific Mini Games after topping their respective divisions in the Triathlon Association of the CNMI’s “Just Tri-It” event held Saturday at Paupau Beach.
The CNMI triathlon team members, along with the rest of the local triathlon community, tested their limits in a multi-discipline race combining swimming, cycling, and running. The event brought together individual competitors and relay teams, all pushing themselves under the morning sun.
Leading the pack was Takeru Jim, who dominated from start to finish with an impressive time of 1:15:46. His speed, smooth transitions, and consistent pace kept him in front, earning him first place in the men’s division — and first overall.
Christian Villacrusis placed second overall with a time of 1:16:32, while Michael Miller claimed third overall and third in the men’s division with a solid 1:19:33 finish.
In the women’s division, Shawna Brennfleck showcased exceptional athleticism, crossing the finish line at 1:21:58 to notch first place.
Taking silver was Heather Brook, clocking in at 1:22:57, followed by Terra Allen with a bronze-worthy time of 1:31:26.
Team competition
In addition to the individual race, a triathlon relay was also held, with the dynamic Just For Fun team —composed of Hawley, Gaviola, and Poole — taking first place with a finish time of 1:16:16.
Team Tri-Hard — Taflinger and Tolentino — settled for second place with a respectable time of 1:19:51, while Team Wonder Women, composed of Chisato, Felipe, and Romero, claimed third with a finish time of 1:25:15.
More than just a race, the “Just Tri-It” triathlon raised funds for the CNMI team heading to the Pacific Mini Games, thanks to generous support from the community.
