Jones’ team bogeyed in most of the six designated Peoria holes to earn the handicaps that helped them beat the 27 other teams including those of ace golfers like Jess I. Wabol of Refwaluwasch Golf Association and retired Judge Edward Manibusan of Saipan Golfers’ Association.
Jones and his team mates had 61 net to win the four-person scramble and bring home the grand prize.
Winning the second place was the team of Joe Itibus, Pete Itibus, Newman Techur and George Moses. They earned 4.8 handicaps and finished with 62.2 net from a gross of 67.
Ray San Nicolas, Joe Sablan, John Babauta and Jung Peck settled for third place as their conservative 2.4 handicap trimmed their 65 gross down to 62.6.
Placing fourth were Gabriele Colombo, David Jones, Rex Moses and Tom Basa who sank balls in Peoria holes to have 12 handicaps that cut their 75 gross down to 63.
Manibusan who trekked the sprawling east course with Peter Tenorio, Rick Kautz and Manuel Alvarez slashed their gross big time by firing an eagle in Hole No. 1, six birdies in the back nine and three birdies in the front nine.
They shot 61 but missed the Peoria holes to fall short of 4.8 handicaps and finished with 65.8 net.
The team led by Jess I. Wabol was the quickest to launch the ball 510 yards from tee to the cup. They did in 52 seconds to win the Speed Golf Hole.
Although tied with Manibusan’s team in 61, they missed the Peoria holes big time to finish with 68.2.
The proceeds from this event will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation in an effort to grant the wish of a child who has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
