Local athletes face ‘Fighting Fitz’ in exhibition game

The first group, whose roster includes Kelvin Fitial, Peter Camacho, Romeo Iginoef, Ed Diaz, and Fred Pelisamen among others, lost 38-34 despite outrunning the “Fighting Fitz,” by six points in a 15-minute second half.

The ‘all-local’ roster, coached by Elias Rangamar, also included Ton and Zack Diaz, Ponce Rasa, Tim Wesley, Mike Olaitiman, and Trevor Ogumoro.

Jenkins led the Fighting Fitz with 19 points.

The Fitz faced an all-Filipino squad in a second game, with the match stopped 10 minutes into the second half due to rain.

Elmer Esdrelon and Jawn Joyner eventually top scored with 11 points each after handing their team a 37-28 lead their larger opponents.

The Filipino All Stars also included Jomar Tumaquip, Wowie Abuel, Ivan De Vero, Bon Tamayo, Darwin Barbo, Kae Bernardo, Junar Guiab, Ehroll Peredo, Marlon De Dios, and Glen Aquino.

“We would like to thank our partners — Masters Basketball Federation of the Northern Marianas Islands, IT&E, and Star Water for this exhibition game,” said organizer Rey Perez.

The games were held a few days before the GBL’s opening ceremony, set for tomorrow at 6 p.m.
