Sweet redemption: Deary wins Saipanne Golf Club Championship

(PR) – Doctor Michael “26” Deary captured the 2025 annual Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe Championship on Saturday, December 6, with a clutch pitch-in par at the 17th, propelling him to a one-shot victory over Greg “Fossil” Koebel. The masterful stroke came on the same long par four where Deary carded a disastrous 7-over-par 11 two years prior that cost him the title, a fitting demonstration of his resilience and determination. Following the sensational par on 17, Deary calmly rolled in a par at the closing par-5 to record a net score of 69, edging out Fossil, who finished second at net 70.

After the win, Deary remarked, “the 17th tooketh and the 17th gaveth back.” Sweet redemption, indeed.

At the awards dinner held at Wild Bille’s Barre and Grille immediately following the championship, Deary was presented with the Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe’s perpetual claret jug and champion’s jacket by last year’s champ, Timothy “Tex” Brasuell, and $160 in prize money from club treasurer Richard “Caddy Dipper” Miller.

Other championship participants included “Double” Dan Harding, who finished 3rd with a net 73; Tex (74); Donn “Champ Champ” Dunlop (76); Judge Juan Lizama (80); Bill “Supersandy” Riggen (80); and Caddy Dipper (83).
