Manacop, Omechelang clinch July titles

This is their second time to clinch a monthly title since March, where Manacop drew 803 pinfalls and Omechelang earned 672.

None surpassed Manacop’s scores in the men’s division as he posted 830 last Monday and 807 on Sunday.

Raymond Zapanta – a second runner-up in the Philippine Bowling Association’s Bowler of the Year Tournament – trailed the champion at 777 with an average of 194.25 pins per game. His brother, Raphael Zapanta, eked out a 743 total and 185.75 average to rest in third place.

Manacop posted his game high 236 pinfalls during game two last Monday to beat Raymond’s 199. The king of the lanes finished off with 214 and 179 in games three and four. Paul Pangelinan, the PBA’s eventual Bowler of the Year, ranked fourth at 727 pinfalls. Joe Sto. Domingo (717) followed in fifth place.

Raymond Zapanta scored 201, 199, 170, and 207 in each game last Monday. Raphael garnered 189, 163, 191, and 200.

Meanwhile, Omechelang averaged 169 pinfalls per game to top seven bowlers in the women’s division. Omechelang nearly capped the 200-mark in the game one, where she tallied 196. She completed games two through four with 154, 142, and 184.

Second-ranked Mel Regis fell 15 pins behind at 661 with a 165.25 average. Third place winner Carol Mckenzie scored 160, 164, 178, and 159 for a 656 total. The ladies’ top five also included January’s queen of the lanes YhoVillavicencio (637) and Lala Taitano (626).

Meanwhile, Marion Mckenzie won the Fiji Water Prince or Princess of the Lanes Tournament for the third straight time last Sunday.

Mckenzie scored 638 pinfalls this month, beating MJ Aldan (524) once again for the title. Marcel Mckenzie settled for third place at 396 pinfalls and Jasper Manacop won fourth with 270.

Marion took the lead with 169 pinfalls in game one, surpassing Aldan’s 111. He completed games two through four with 153, 153, and 163 for a 159.5 average.

Mckenzie mustered 706 pinfalls to win last month and totaled 663 to dominate in May.

Aldan scored 111, 115, 163, and 135 on Sunday. Marcel scored 83, 137, 91, and 85.
