Marianas High School takes championship trophy home

The Dolphins edged past the Manta Rays by a few seconds in the 500m and 1500m stint to give them their final victory garnering a total of 103 points against Saipan Southern High School’s 86 points followed by Kagman High School’s Ayuyu at 71 points.

Acquiring smooth starting pulls and clean turns, Saipan Southern High School’s Lady Rays rallied past the Dolphins in the 1500m event earning them a total of 48 points for the event to tie with the Dolphins last Saturday who also got 48 points.

Without the sour taste of revenge in their mouths the Lady Dolphins paddled their best in the last 500m race to secure a strong second place seeding.

The Lady Rays were awarded the championship trophy after bagging a total of 101 points. The Saipan Southern girls surpassed Marianas High School’s tally last May 7, 24-16, and again on May 14, 10-4. Marianas High fell behind with 89 points followed by Mount Carmel School with 60 points.

“The overall winners were awarded a lovely trophy, with their team engraved on a plaque,” said Kanu’s Ann Jordan in an email to the Variety.

“Special thanks to the organizers, without whom these races would not have happened,” she added.
