Miller, Pan rule 5th Annual NMI 10km Women’s Run

AKIKO Miller and Catherine Pan topped their respective divisions in the Northern Marianas Athletics’ 5th Annual NMI 10km Women’s Run on Saturday at Micro Beach.

In the overall division, Akiko Miller finished first with a time of 43:47 followed by Krista Hawley (50:13) in second and Ann Bang (53:44) in third place.

In the women’s U18 division, Catherine Pan finished first with a time of 54:13 followed by Yuxi Zhang (55:47), and Dianna Zheng (58:15).

In an interview with the 16-year-old Pan, she said she felt good winning the U18 division. She did not lead the entire race but overtook her friend Zhang during the halfway turn. She said “girl power is unimaginable.”

Other winners

In the 30-34 age group, Jove Taman (1:03:50) took first place followed by Loriann Rabe (1:03.53).

In the 40-44 age group, Robyn Spaeth (57:54) claimed first place followed by Soledad Tenorio (58:52), and Kathleen Tolentino (1:00:04).

In the 45-49 age group, Rosemarie Chisato (57:56) claimed the top spot followed by Sheila Isla (1:06:07), and Pamela Walsh (1:07:14).

In the 50-54 age group, Geraldine Rodgers (1:11:28) finished first followed by Frances Pangelinan (1:25:00).

In the 55-59 age group, Marilou Carlos (1:03:23) was first followed by Miriam Dilse (1:06:17).

In the 5K division was an entire family of runners, Addalee Taflinger (23:36), her sister Kaylen (25:23), and their mother Angela (26:31), claimed the top three list.

“This was the biggest turnout so far,” said Rep. Elias Rangamar, who is also an official of the Northern Marianas Athletics. “It’s not just about fitness. It’s about empowerment and the women in our community, the resilience — it’s about them supporting each other,” he added.
