MPP ranks fourth at Micro Cup

The MPP’s crew consisted of Ann Jordan, Juliette Sword, Leilani Nielsen, Vaaia Leuta, Eileen Fleming, and Valeire and Andrea Hofschneider. The group, having the smallest crew in the competition, participated in 500 and 1500 meter sprint as well as the long distance event.

A total of ten teams – seven from Guam, one from Hong Kong, one from Guam, and one from the CNMI – participated in the women’s open category.

Team MPP secured two third place trophies from long distance and 1500 meter race, bumping them in the top four. They plan to compete again in next year’s Micro Cup, which will be held at Guam.

Team MPP thanks Lollipops, Marianas Visitors Authority, and Marianas Coffee Company for their support. The group invites all interested female paddlers to its practices, which will resume today. Weekly practices are held every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 a.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.

The 2010 Micro Cup, which started from October 22 to 24, included three other categories – men’s open, mixed masters, and mixed juniors.

Paddlers from Saipan Outrigger Canoe Club joined Ann Jordan’s crew at Palau, winning second place in the 500 meter sprint, fourth in the long distance event, and fifth in the 1500 meter sprint of the men’s open.
