New Changming’s Frank Ferrer reaches out for the block against Pegs during a men’s open division game of the Michelob Ultra Cup 2024 at the Gilbert C. Ada gym.

NEW Changming dominated 670 Akkari Ruuw 2, 92-51, in the men’s open division of the Michelob Ultra Cup 2024 at the Ada gym on Friday.
New Changming played to their strengths by using their height and fastbreak strategy to gain control of the momentum. They dominated the boards, racking in offensive and defensive rebounds that were turned into easy fastbreak buckets on the other end led by Rodel Pastrana who scored nine points.
Akkari’s one and only big man, Garrett Mariano, had a couple of answers inside the paint along with JC Ong firing two midrange shots. But their team had more misses than makes while New Changming’s Ronald Bernardo and Ivan De Vero added three extra buckets for a double-digit spread, 21-10.
Akkari tried to close the distance with a couple of triples in the second canto, but New Changming continued to thrive with Christian David and Daryl Foronda joining Pastrana in an offensive onslaught to further stretch the deficit, 47-25.
In the second half, David and Pastrana picked up where they left off and scored a combined 20 points while Akkari’s biggest run was seen in the fourth and final quarter before they settled for defeat, 51-92.
Joining the winner’s circle were the Ol’Aces who earned their second win of the season against Pegs, 64-54.
